It can all seem pretty confusing, but it’s actually not that bad once you have a better idea of what you are doing. If you’re unable to use WhatsApp or a similar messaging service, one of the methods on this list should be enough to suit your needs. If you want to check out alternative email apps, here’s a list of 8 of the the best Android email apps to increase your productivity. If not, let’s get started.

Method 1: Entering the Email in Your SMS App (SMS to Email Messages)

You should be able to send emails through the SMS app on your Android device. Open the messaging app on your device, and instead of entering a number as you normally would, enter an email address. Compose your message, tap send, and your carrier should convert the message to an email. It’s incredibly simple, but it seems that most people have no idea that their Android device is capable of doing it in the first place. This is the quickest method, and if it works for you, there’s no real reason to continue with the other methods on the list, but they could be worth checking out if you’re looking for different features, or a different way to send text messages through email and vice versa.

Method 2: Texting Yourself and Others via Email

You can send text messages to most phones from your email account, as long as you know the correct email address code for your carrier. For example, if you want to send a text message to a T-Mobile number, you just have to attach the number to; @tmomail.net Here’s a list of a few of the most popular carrier codes for email to SMS messages; (You’ll have to insert the recipients number before the @ sign.)

Alltel @message.alltel.comAT&T @txt.att.netNextel @messaging.nextel.comSprint @messaging.sprintpcs.comSunCom @tms.suncom.comT-Mobile @tmomail.netUS Cellular @email.uscc.netVoiceStream @voicestream.netVerizon @vtext.com (text only) @vzwpix.com (pictures and videos)

To send a message using this method, compose the message in your email account, to the address that you would like to send the message to. The message should have the number first, and than the carrier SMS code. Here’s an example; 0000000000@tmomail.net

It should send almost instantly, although the message will be sent by a different, generic number, such as 101010002 for AT&T. (Because of this, it could be worth including your name in the text message to avoid any confusion for the recipient.)This method will work on nearly any device, including older ‘non-smart’ feature phones. (As long as you have the correct email code.)

Method 3: Google Voice

Google Voice is a viable alternative, as you can email anything to yourself via SMS by texting your Google Voice number from any phone. As their website says; International text messages: At this time, Google Voice supports sending text messages to phone numbers in the U.S. and Canada, but you can receive text messages from anywhere in the world. Currently, Google Voice only supports short codes within the U.S. You can even choose to have all of the text messages sent to your Google number delivered to the email address associated with your Google account. It could be useful if you need to get your SMS app out of the equation. If that sounds like it could be handy; Open Google Voice on a computer. Click Settings, found at the top right of the page. Open the Voicemail & Text tab, and find the Text Forwarding Check the box next to the option; Forward text messages to my email. Click Save Changes. You should now be able to receive all text messages sent to your Google number via email, which can be handy while you’re on vacation, or if you just can’t use your phone normally for whatever reason. However, you will only be able to reply to text messages from the email address the message was originally sent to. This means you won’t be able and forward and reply to messages, but it should still be pretty useful. If you would like to learn more, here’s an official YouTube advert for the SMS to email service:
