We just need to iron out some issues. It still may not seem like lying on the beach, drinking cocktails, but having your Motorola Droid Maxx working again will be satisfying nonetheless.

Problem 1: Frozen or Unresponsive

Solutions:

1. Force Reboot

Press Power down and hold for 7 to 30 seconds. The phone should restart on its own.

2. Check Your Power Supply

If you have been using an alternative, try using the original charger intended for your Motorola Droid Maxx. Alternatively, if you are using the original charger, it could be faulty, so try a different charger recommended for your phone. Ensure that the outlet you are plugging the charger into is functional.

3. Boot into Recovery Mode

With your phone powered down, press and hold the Volume Down key. Turn the phone on by pressing the Power key until the phone vibrates, then release Power. Press the Volume Down key to scroll to Recovery and use the Volume Up button to select that option. It’s a good idea to go ahead, and Wipe Cache and the phone will reboot on its own. If you opt not to, highlight Reboot System Now and press Volume Up to at least give the system a fresh start.

4. Update Apps

If you can recover functionality, but this is a recurrent issue, it’s entirely possible that a malfunctioning app is to blame. Updates can fix bugs. To update manually or an individual basis, go to the Play Store and select the Menu icon (three stacked horizontal lines in the left corner). Go to My apps and games > touch app or press Update All > Accept. If you wish to set up automatic updates, go to Menu, but select Settings > Auto-update apps and choose to update any time or with Wi-Fi only.

5. Hard Reset

If nothing else works, there is an option to perform a Factory data reset from Recovery Mode, or if your phone is responsive enough, this is an easier way to get there. Go to Backup and reset from Settings and tap on Factory data reset. Instruct the Motorola Droid Maxx to Reset Phone. This process wipes data so you might want to backup what you wish to save!

Problem 2: Baffling Battery

Inadequate battery life can be an issue on Motorola Droid Maxx, although it’s a little confusing what with the 3500 mAh battery. Something that compounds the issue is that the battery isn’t removable.

Solutions:

1. Analyze Apps

Some apps are greedier than others when it comes to using your battery. To determine which apps are being the most demanding, go to Apps > Settings > Battery. You can then select each app to see if there are different settings that reduce battery consumption. If nothing else works, or if you don’t need an app, you can uninstall or disable it. In fact, you may want to use this opportunity to conduct a Spring cleaning of all the apps you don’t need or use.

2. Check Charging Conditions

Does your phone have a broken or bent port? Does the charger fit too loosely? Have you tried a different charger? A different outlet?

3. Go Easy on the Gaming, Streaming, Etc

Heavy gaming uses a lot of resources. If you are constantly streaming apps like YouTube, it can be much the same way. You don’t have to give these activities up, but do consider what you are asking of your phone, and recognize that this can contribute to battery drain. Uninstall anything unnecessary.

4. Get App Assistance

Not all apps are bad for your battery. Some are designed to help. One example of such an app is Greenify. This app allows you to select which apps you want to place in a state of hibernation, only consuming resources when you need them. Download: Greenify

5. Use My Verizon Diagnostics

First, check to see if your My Verizon app has been updated. If not, update it; if so, open it. Tap the red Menu button with the three lines and press Customer Support. Go to Device Health Check > VIEW ALL > Battery. Read about any reported issues, then allow the app to try to troubleshoot for you.

Problem 3: Issues Sending or Receiving Calls, Texts, or Videos

Solutions:

1. Turn on Mobile Data

Picture and video files can get quite hefty, and often require the use of mobile data.

2. iPhone Incompatibility

If you have used iMessage in the past, make sure you deregister it now. If you still have that iPhone and are using a SIM card, you transferred out of the iPhone, put it back in for a second. Go to Settings > Message and disable iMessage. If you no longer have that, iPhone go to Apple’s dedicated website.

3. Contact Carrier

Especially if your issue arises after making a switch in providers, contact your carrier to ensure the proper configuration for these services. For instance, if you switch from Verizon to AT&T and suddenly you experience problems sending SMS using the network, contact AT&T. Your account must be in good standing.

4. Check Settings

Make sure you aren’t in Airplane Mode. Press the Power button for only a few seconds and you will see the option to turn Airplane Mode on or off.

5. Clear App Data &/or Cache

If the problem seems to be with one application and that application alone, try clearing the cache and app data of that app first. For instance, if you can hear your Motorola Droid Maxx ringing, but the call screen isn’t showing itself, try addressing the issue with the Dialer app first. From Apps, go to Settings, then Apps again. From the All tab, select the app. Choose Clear Data or Clear Cache.

6. Update Apps

7. Pocket Dialing Fix

After you end a phone call, it’s perfectly normal for your Maxx to go directly to a call log screen. While it’s normal, it can result in embarrassing pocket dials where you accidentally touch or bump the phone’s call option and carry on a non-existent conversation. Or this problem can allow your listener to eavesdrop on whatever you are saying or doing after the call. To prevent this, you can download an app called Not Call Log 2 – free (NO ADS). Download: Not Call Log 2 – free (NO ADS)

Problem 4: Maximize Storage

32 GB may suffice for some, but heavy users may find themselves wanting more than what this phone inherently has to offer.

Solutions

1. Restart Regularly

If you are experiencing problems with speed, rebooting usually does the trick.

2. Backup & Delete

Store data that isn’t vital for your everyday use somewhere else. Backup the data and then once it’s stored in a new safe location, delete it from your Maxx.

3. Limit Widgets, Wallpapers

And limit greedy apps. Uninstall any apps you don’t use. The only way you will be able to uninstall some preinstalled apps is to root your phone.

4. Use Cloud Storage

Not only can you use external storage, but you can use someone else’s physical storage. You should consider this option for media files, like photos.

5. Set a Limit

Set a limit on the number of text messages stored in your inbox. From the app itself, go to Menu > Settings > Delete Old Messages. Then tap on Text Message Limit. Set the maximum number of messages your inbox is allowed to hold.

6. Clear System Cache

With your phone powered down, press and hold the Volume Down key. Turn the phone on by pressing the Power key until the phone vibrates, then release Power. Press the Volume Down key to scroll to Recovery and use the Volume Up button to select that option. Select Wipe Cache and the phone will reboot on its own.

Problem 5: App Issues

New apps are exciting but can bring their baggage.

Solutions:

1. Keep Everything Current

If a new update for your apps and operating system becomes available, seize on it. Updates can fix bugs that can cause these crashes.

2. Narrow it Down

To determine which app it could be (or if this is the problem at all) try going into Safe Mode. Safe Mode only uses those apps that come with your phone without loading any of the third-party software that could be causing the issue. To go into Safe Mode, first press the Power key, then long-press the Power Off option. Tap OK and the phone will reboot. The words Safe Mode should appear in the lower-left of your screen. If you do not experience the restarting problem in Safe Mode, try uninstalling any third-party app, one-at-a-time, that you think might be the culprit. If the phone still misbehaves in Safe Mode, your problem could be related to the hardware or a corrupted OS, which can be tougher to fix on your own.

3. Clear App Cache & Data

4. Lost Navigation App

You might have noticed that the shortcut to the Navigation app that was on your Motorola Droid Maxx disappeared. It was merged into Google Maps. You can still access that functionality through Google Maps or Google Now.

5. Factory Reset

This is going to wipe everything, and you will have to start from scratch. To start with a clean slate, go into Recovery Mode. Choose Factory Reset/Wipe Data by selecting the option using the Volume Down key and confirming your choice by pressing the Volume Up key.

6. Contact Motorola or Dealer

Honestly, though, at this point, nothing is likely to be under warranty.

Problem 6: Adverse Audio

Do you have trouble hearing or is it your phone? If the sound quality is inadequate or non-existent, read on.

Solutions:

1. Power Cycle Your Maxx

Press the Power down and hold for 7 to 30 seconds. The phone should restart on its own.

2. For Flaky Bluetooth Audio

If you are having trouble attaining audio output via Bluetooth, go to Settings > Bluetooth and press the Settings (gear) icon next to the connected device. Temporarily uncheck Media Audio, select OK, and then check Media Audio again. Also, try unpairing and re-pairing devices.

3. Reduce Interference

Indoors other wireless equipment operating on the same frequency can contribute to audio problems, while outdoors signal may be affected by environmental conditions.

4. Faulty Speakers/Headphones/Audio Jack

Broken hardware can be difficult to fix. Sometimes replacement is the only viable solution.

5. Notification Sounds

If, for instance, you do not hear any sound when you receive a text, go to Settings > Sound and Notification and change the Default Notification Ringtone.

Problem 7: Display Difficulties

You need your display to respond to your touch. If it truly is the hardware, it could be next to impossible for you to repair and replacement of parts may be necessary. However, it doesn’t have to be so drastic.

Solutions:

1. Restart

It might seem like the IT person’s scapegoat, but it truly works a large percentage of the time. Start with a soft reset, where the phone is only off for about 10 seconds. You can also perform a hard-reset, but don’t forget to backup anything you would like to save. A hard reset is another term for factory reset.

2. Remove any Interference

Remember, this screen relies on touch. Help the screen help you by ridding the phone of any screen protector or case that could hinder your Droid’s ability to sense your fingers. Dust and debris can collect underneath the screen protector.

Problem 8: Weak Wireless Connections

Solutions:

1. Soft Reset

Power your Maxx off, then on again. Do the same thing with your router. Leave it off for about 10 seconds.

2. Check Settings

Make sure that security and encryption settings on your Droid match those on your router. Both should share the same key.

3. Come Close

If the signal indicator affirms a weak connection, it could be due to other items blocking it or to distance. For example, if you are next to a tall building or in a basement, you might need to relocate. Also, you could be too far away from the service tower. Move your Motorola Maxx closer to the router. It’s possible for other devices can also create interference, so move any other appliances away.

4. No Sleeping on the Job

Power on Wi-Fi during sleep. Just in case your Wi-Fi is too busy dreaming to stay connected, visit Settings > Wi-Fi > More, and select Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. Choose Always.

5. Remove and Reinsert SIM

With your phone powered off, pull out the SIM tray (located on the right edge of the device). Take out the SIM and insert it again. Push the SIM tray back into place.

6. Try Again Later

If you are attempting to connect at a peak time of the day, it may be more than the network can handle. Wait 5-10 minutes and try again.

7. Unpair Bluetooth & Try Again

8. Use the Correct PIN or Passcode for Bluetooth

If you are asked for a passcode or PIN, try 0000 on any Motorola device.

9. Turn Off Airplane Mode

Press the Power button for only a few seconds and you will see the option to turn Airplane Mode on or off.
