I grew up playing highly pixelated games like Super Mario and Contra and have witnessed the dramatic change in graphics first hand. But even if we have some of the best graphics on Android, we still love playing a good game with pixel graphics. A lot of people are turned off by pixel art games for Android just because they look outdated. But this is where they are wrong, some of the games in this list look amazing, even more so than the games featuring realistic graphics. There is a reason they are called Pixel Art Games for Android. If you are a veteran gamer who values gameplay over graphics, then you are at the right place. These games ooze retro, old school looks as well as gameplay and will surly put a coy, nostalgic smile on your face. Note: The best pixel style games for Android were tested on a Samsung Galaxy Note III smartphone. The apps performed fine and no glitches or bugs were faced during testing. I would also recommend that you play the games on a tablet rather than a smartphone for a great immersive experience. The games are in no particular order.
1. Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery
Conclusion
These were a few pixel art games for Android. Personally, I loved playing through all of them, but Always Sometimes Monsters stole the show for me. There are some modern world gaming gems in the list that will keep you occupied for a long time. The gameplay is well polished, but it’s the animations that really steal the show. The subtle wave of smoke, the swish swash of trees in a gentle gale, the shimmering reflections in the water all contribute to making one of the best-looking games on the platform. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to any role-playing fan who values gorgeous visuals and supporting gameplay. Paid Version
2. McPixel
In the game you are tasked with preventing stuff from blowing up and that too with the tools at your disposal. To top that off, you will only have 20 seconds to defuse the situation and win the level. The game has around 60 levels to enjoy and that is a lot, considering the amount of work put into them. The game is an old-school point and click adventure with fun outcomes. Paid Version
3. Meganoid 2
The game features tombs, temples and the hazards that usually come packaged with them. You can expect booby-traps, boulders, snakes and arrows in this game and all of them have the potential of ending the level for you. The fast paced gameplay of Meganoid 2 is a prime example of what makes the old school games exciting. Paid Version
4. Always Sometimes Monsters
The game then takes you on a journey to win back the person you love and get your life back together. The pixel art style of the game is endearing and looks beautiful on any screen. The game is an RPG, which gives you a lot of choice over your decisions. You can make your own character, select their gender, race and even sexual preference. The NPC (Non-playable characters) will have appropriate reactions to all of those factors. I highly recommend this title as well. Paid Version This is perhaps the only list that features more paid games than free ones, but the titles were too good to pass up. I recommend Superbrother as well if you like playing a great pixel RPG.
